Why Do Brides Wear White?

The white wedding dress is a classic and traditional choice for brides. The color white can symbolize purity and chastity, or a woman's transition to a married Roman matron. It can also be associated with Vesta, the virgin goddess of hearth, home, and family.

The white wedding dress originated with Anne of Brittany's marriage to Louis XII of France in 1499. However, Queen Victoria made the white dress popular in 1840 when she married Prince Albert. She chose to wear a white dress in Honiton lace to help the struggling factory where the fabric was created.

Today, many brides choose to wear white on their wedding day, even if they aren't a virgin or have children. White is chosen because it's traditional.

White is reserved for the bride(s) or groom(s) only. However, it is okay to wear white if the couple has specifically requested that attire be worn. Wearing white to someone else's wedding can be seen as trying to steal attention away from the bride.

Toasting Tips

*Introduce yourself and your relationship to the couple.

*Make a joke but know your audience.

*Keep it short and sweet. 3 min is the magic number.

*Share a story about the Bride and the Groom.

*At the end of the toast ask everyone to raise their glass and congratulate the Bride and Groom.

*When using a microphone, talk a little slower and louder than normal, keep the mic 3 or 4 inches from your mouth. Don’t talk with your hands and be mindful if you have rings and crumpling notes or papers.

30/5 Rule

The 30/5 rule means that on your wedding day, things that normally takes five minutes in real life will take 30 minutes. It also means that thirty minutes will feel like 5 minutes. This rule really proves that time does fly on your big day.

The best way to deal with the 30/5 rule is to not let it work against you. Have a solid timeline but allow some wiggle room. Don’t be surprised when a simple thing like a photo with family takes 30 minutes when it should have only taken 5 minutes. Don’t worry, I will be there to help keep the night on track.
